Google Analytics allows you to track the visits to your site in great detail. You can learn many things about your visitors and how people use your site. Google Analytics is a free service and with the special in-built plugin for your site, you can easily start using it. All you need to do is:

Create Google Analytics Account and get your tracking ID

Go to and log in with your Google account. If you do not have one already, you will be prompted to create an account. Sign up for Google Analytics and fill out the data for your website:

Make sure you enter the correct URL for your website and that you select http:// from the drop-down menu (otherwise visits will not be counted correctly).

When done, press the Get Tracking ID button at the bottom of the page. You will be redirected to the following screen:

Copy the full tracking ID you see on top of the page. You will need this to enable tracking in Joomla.

Enable Google Analytics tracking in the Joomla admin

Access your Joomla admin from the dashboard and go to Extensions -> Plugin manager:

Locate and click on the one called SiteGround - Google Analytics.

Enter the tracking ID you got on the Google Analytics website in the Tracking code field and change the Status to Enabled.

Enable Display Advertising will allow you to collect Demographics and Interests data about your visitors. For this to work, you also have to enable it inside your Google Analytics dashboard.

Click Save&Close and you are all set! If you want to check your code, you can go back to Google Analytics Tracking Code page (you can reach it by pressing Admin -> Tracking Info -> Tracking Code).

Please note that it may take up to 24hrs for changes to be reflected in Google Analytics. During that time you might be seeing a message like this:
