You can easily link your Joomla.com website with different types of social media accounts using the special inbuilt module. The social media links module can be placed anywhere, but its layout is optimized for several specific locations in our templates.

Locate the Social Media Module and add your profiles to it

Go to Extensions -> Module Manager:

Find the module named SiteGround – Social module and click on it. You can use the search to find the relevant module as the list of modules might be long.

Enter the IDs of the social media profiles that you want linked on your page. For example, if the address of your Facebook profile/page is https://www.facebook.com/joomla, just enter joomla in the Facebook field. The plugin will fill in the rest of the URL. You can also add an email address or a link to your contact page. If you leave any of the fields empty, the corresponding social media icon will not be sown on your website.

Add social media links to footer

If you want your social media links displayed in the footer, set the Position field to Custom position > Footer and Status to Published. Click Save.

Switch to Module Assignment and pick On all pages from the drop-down – this way the links will display on all pages. You can modify this if you want to show the social media links only on some pages or if you want to exclude them from a certain part of your website. Click Save again before you leave the module options page.

If you go to the front-end of your website now, it should look something like this:

Adding social Media links to the menu bar.

This is a good option for the business and the blog templates.

If you want your social media links displayed in the header, you need to set the Position field to Custom position > Search and Status to Published. Click Save.

Then go to the Menu Assignment tab. In Module Assignment, pick On all pages from the drop-down – this way the links will display on all pages. Click Save again before you leave the options page.

If you go to the front-end of your website now, it should look something like this:

Not so good, right? The next thing you need to do is hide the Search module. To do this, go back to Extensions -> Module Manager and locate the Search - Top module in the list. Click on the green checkmark in the list to unpublish it:

Go back to the front page and reload. Now it should look similar to this:

Adding social media links to multiple places

To have the social media module shown on multiple different positions, setup the first Social Media module and assign it to one position. Then create a copy of the Social media module you have already created and edit its settings, as described above, to assign it it on another position of your choice
