None of the core Joomla content management function is limited for the Joomla.com users: articles, media, users, menus, components and extensions can be edited as in a standard Joomla CMS. However, no Superusers are allowed оn Joomla.com websites. Тhe installation of the extensions and templates is restricted and the users cannot edit server configuration information. Below is a list of the specific differences in a Joomla.com admin, as compared with a standard Joomla! CMS admin:

  • Global Configuration:
  • Site Tab: Use URL rewriting is not available. This option works only for Apache and IIS7. Joomla.com sites are hosted on an Nginx setup.
  • Server: Server Settings - the option to edit such settings is removed, as they are set on server level on the free Joomla infrastructure and should not be changed by the user.
  • Server: FTP Settings - no FTP functionality is available on the server
  • Server: Proxy Settings – there is no need to keep this service, as we do not provide extensions that need it.
  • Server: Database Settings - this is pre-configured and should not be edited by user
  • User Manager:
  • Mass Mail Users - Mass mailing will not be allowed on the platform to minimize the possibility for spam.
  • Limited access to component options - permissions cannot be edited.
  • Extensions (Installation Manager)
  • Extension Manager (install, discover, update, etc)
  • Cannot install/uninstall components, plugins, modules, templates and languages. Only the pre-installed can be used.
  • Template Manager
  • No access to component options (cannot change permissions)
  • Template files, cannot be edited.
  • Language Manager
  • No access to component options (cannot change permissions)
  • Media Manager
  • No access to component options (cannot change permissions)
  • Module Manager
  • No access to component options (cannot change permissions)
  • Update options removed, as updates are handled automatically
  • Joomla AutoUpdate - no access, plugin icon removed
  • Extensions AutoUpdate - no access, plugin icon removed
  • Two Factor Authentication
  • YubiKey - temporarily removed, not compatible with current joomla.com setup
